Amazon Superfoods for Natural Skincare

As you may know, we source our ingredients from the Amazon rainforest in Peru. We're lucky to be based so close to so many powerful superfoods. Acai Berries, Maracuya, Sacha Inchi are just a few of the jungle's superfoods that you may have seen popping up at your local health food store (usually in capsule-form), due to their rich and tremendous health benefits. Naturally, if these ingredients do wonders to your body and diet, they can also work miracles on your skin. Read on below to learn a little bit more about Amazon Superfoods for Natural Skincare.

Amazon Superfood Natural Skincare Oils

 Aguaje Oil

1. Aguaje Oil

The aguaje fruit comes from the Peruvian Amazon rainforest and it is locally known as the "miracle fruit." The aguaje fruit has three times more vitamin A than a carrot and is packed with protein, vitamins and oils. Since many locals do not have direct access to health care, they have turned to mother nature to solve their skincare needs. Aguaje is used by the locals to treat burns.

When applied directly to a burn, the high vitamin A, vitamin E and oil content soothes the wound. The rich beta-carotene component is known to protect from sun damage and is used as a natural sunblock. Aguaje has been used to treat various skin conditions like psoriasis and eczema. The natural anti-inflammatory reaction tames redness and calms the skin.

We like to use Aguaje oil in our Repair and Hydrate blend to help aid damaged, aged and dry skin. We find it also works very well on sun-spots.

 Maracuya Oil

2. Maracuja Oil (or Maracuya Oil)

You probably know Maracuja as Passion Fruit! Its citric taste can probably give away that it is packed with Vitamin C and you already know that Vitamin C is vital for healthy skin and should be the first ingredient you consider for your skincare products. Locals in the Amazon region know that a cup of passion fruit contains about 25% of your daily recommended amount of carotenoids (Vitamin A). Vitamin A is crucial for maintaining healthy skin and good vision. The fruit's oil is considered to be an excellent emollient with the ability to moisturize as it easily penetrates deep into the skin while preventing moisture from seeping out.

We use Maracuja Oil in our custom blends for those who need a big dose of extra moisture and vitamin C in their skincare routine.

 sacha inchi oil

3. Sacha Inchi Oil

Sacha Inchi is another exotic and rare skincare ingredient we like to use. Sacha Inchi grows in the Peruvian and Brazilian Amazon jungle and it is packed with 75% protein and 25% Omega-3’s. A Sacha Inchi seed contains all of the essential amino acids your body needs. That's truly quite amazing!

Now ready to hear how good Sacha Inchi oil is for skincare? Well, it's high antioxidant content (Vitamin A and E) will help you even out the tone of your skin and help repair scarring and premature ageing. While the linoleic acid concentration will help control your skin's oil production. Most importantly, Sacha Inchi oil does not clog our pores!
